By now you've probably heard of – or smelled evidence of – the large fire burning out of control on the island on Lake Ballinger, which, though not technically in Shoreline, has been wafting smoke and ash all through our area.
Local blogger and weather enthusiast Carl was able to get some fantastic photos of the fire, which he shares here, and has blogged about it, here.
Thank you for sharing those, Carl!

Pretty amazing. I had ash from it (at least I presume that's the source) floating into my yard all the way down in North City.
ReplyDeleteYep, there was heavy ash fall in North City alright, also through out North Ridge, and Echo Lake neighborhoods.
ReplyDeleteDrove by on 205th this morning and the fire was still smoldering. I haven't heard any official word on how long this may burn, but since it's a peat island, perhaps a long time?
ReplyDeleteThe island has been known to have fires on it in the past that lasted over a year. I hope this one isn't that long lasting. Some peat bogs around the world have been burning for the last 50 years!
ReplyDeleteI live near Echo Lake, and the smell of smoke this morning is terrible. Bad day to have your windows open...
ReplyDeleteSeveral times the smoke has woke us up with a choking feeling! I can't wait till it's out or the wind blows the other way...not good for us who have breathing issues already :(
ReplyDeleteI live across from the Golf Course entrance on the Shoreline side. The record breaking heat without air conditioning was bad enough, but we couldn't even open the windows at night. My son hasn't needed his asthma inhaler since last year, but has been having to use it. My next door neighbor is 89 and has lung cancer. I can only hope that this isn't going to be too much. The first two days we could catch the ash as it fell and it was veined vegetation. I hope the culprit(s) that left a hot barbecue, perhaps already realizing they had sparked a fire, will eventually take responsibilty. Hours of community service cleaning up fire damage might be warranted.
ReplyDeleteGreat to read more about here than just the typical blah blah from the tv news.
ReplyDeleteAwesome photo Carl! I read about it and just thought it was smoldering until I saw your photo of the huge raging flames. Thanks for sharing!
