We have reports from our friends over at Pets Energy, next to Central, that something is up over in that plaza. Apparently earlier today, an alarm of some sort rang for around 30 minutes at the Market, and possibly the sprinkler too. The Market was closed, and neighboring Big Lots was also closed. As of around 7 pm there was no power in the entire plaza.
A Central Market employee let us know that there were power issues at one of the nearby banks which affected the entire mall. As of 8 pm, Central is still trying to bring up all their systems and expects to re-open shortly. However, because of the power outage, they won't be selling any perishables such as meats or cold deli items.

Earth Day at Central Market & Pets Energy
If last year's events are any indication, there will probably be a very large celebration of Earth Day this Saturday at Central Market.
They will be hosting the "Earth Day Every Day" event:

Make a difference throughout the year. Learn about new eco-living tips and tools for the home and yard. This year take home these earth-friendly products that minimize the amount of pollutants and chemicals released into soils and waterways:
• kitchen compost pail and compostable bags
• 15 lb. bag of worm castings
• Simple Green 2 oz. car wash soap and a Brown Bear car wash coupon
Don’t forget to ask knowledgeable volunteers about composting and other sustainable practices. For more information about the Earth Day Every Day Event, call (206) 801-2700.
Another event will be held at the nearby pet supply store, Pets Energy. They'll have the Humane Society's "MaxMobile" and Washington Basset Rescue as well as several food vendors giving away samples of their ware, on Saturday April 18, starting at 11 (MaxMobile arriving about 2).
If you've never seen the Basset Rescue, and are fond of the floppy hounds, you're in for a treat! And Starkey here is up for adoption, so maybe you can meet him too.

Giant Pumpkin sets new state record in Shoreline!
1467 pounds. That's a new Washington state record. For what, you ask? For giant pumpkins, of course! This past weekend (on October 11, 2008) the "Pacific Northwest Giant Pumpkin Growers" held a giant pumpkin weigh-off at Central Market in Shoreline. Here are a few photos.

Pet adoption fair on Saturday, September 27th
Looking for that special (furry) someone? Or maybe you just want to catch up on the latest products for your pet friends? Visit Pets Energy, next to Central Market, on Saturday the 27th from 11 am to 4 pm for their first annual adoption fair! Several rescue organizations will be there, as well as representatives from pet food companies with free samples. It should be a fun event!

Jazz and salmon at Central Market
As mentioned in an earlier post: On Friday nights throughout the summer Central Market in Shoreline is offering dinner and music. They call it "Friday Nights at the Market". Last night was fusion jazz and grilled salmon.
So I stopped by Central Market last night to see how the event was going. As advertised, the Scott Lindenmuth Trio was performing. And the salmon was grilling. The food looked good, but I didn't stick around to try it. I was there shortly after 6pm and there was a line of at least 50 people waiting for food!

Friday nights at Central Market: dinner & music
