Shoreline to get Fiber-Optic service

The Shoreline city council voted on Monday to authorize Verizon to offer its new FiOS service in Shoreline, giving residents the option to subscribe to this high-speed internet option, which Verizon claims is much faster than digital cable internet access.

FiOS, short for "Fiber Optic Service" is a form of high-speed broadband internet service which can also transmit telephone and television signals. Verizon has been launching the service in select markets throughout 2008.

    It's available now and has been for a while. I discovered this through the miracle that is Google. You should try it.

    When I put my XXXXX 8th Ave NE 98155 address into that page, it suggests some random "NW" addresses. When I called the FIOS office the person on the other end didn't know much, but did know at least that our area doesn't have FIOS. I would like to know when it's really coming, since the ink on the deal with Shoreline supposedly dried a long time ago.

    FIOS has to lay wire south of 165th and east of Aurora. Coverage in Shoreline is quite limited and further expansion has been halted.

    I'm disappointed to hear that FIOS expansion in Shoreline has been halted. We desperately need an alternative to Comcast's abusive business tactics. I'll jump as soon as possible.
