Halloween Carnival this Saturday in Richmond Beach

Halloween Carnival sponsored by The Richmond Beach Community Association

When: Saturday, October 30, 2010 from 3-7pm

Where: Syre Elementary School, 19545 12th Avenue NW

RBCA's annual Halloween Carnival features traditional carnival games with prizes, inflatables, a haunted house, a raffle and food. As far as old-fashioned carnivals go, this one is truly exceptional and prices are family friendly. Children and parents are encouraged to wear costumes. Because parking is limited, please walk or carpool if possible.

Volunteers are needed for set up, to run booths, for clean up, to donate cakes for the cake walk and to donate raffle prizes. To volunteer, please contact Renee Smith at 801-7489 or renees1710@gmail.com

Sound Transit is starting to study the north Link alignment

Sound Transit is starting to study the north Link alignment (from
Northgate the Lynnwood) and I wrote about the three possible
alignments on the Seattle Transit Blog.

Volunteer to help improve Ronald Bog Park

Dick Decker says:

We had a great turnout Sat. 10/23/10 for our blackberry removal and
planting of native plants.

We had Daisy Brownies Troop 4001 and parents, Shorewood High School
students as well as our core volunteers Ron Post and Terry Roche for a
total of 12 hardy souls dig blackberry roots and plant Sword fern,
Vine maple, Redwood sorrel, False-Lily-of-the-Valley,Youth on Age,
Fringecup, Goatsbeard, Blackcap raspberry,Salmonberry, Evergreen
huckleberry and Flowering red-currant.

We have more clearing to do and more plants to put in the ground so we
have work parties planned each Wed. 9 to 11 and Saturdays 11/6/10 and
11/20/10.

Come join the party and watch the changes occuring at Ronald Bog.

Shoreline Man on Winning Table Tennis Team

Roel Aguanta from Shoreline along with partner Valeri Kim won the open category doubles finals match yesterday (Oct 23) at the Seattle Table Tennis Championships.

Here’s your opportunity to photograph images of Shoreline and share them with the community.

We’re looking for images that exemplify “Our Shoreline.” Your “Our Shoreline” photos may fall into one or more categories including: People; Animals and Wildlife; Nature and Landscapes; and Places (examples include parks, trails, storefronts, etc.). 

Submitted photos may be featured in an issue of Currents (the City’s monthly newsletter,) the Parks and Recreation Guide, the City’s government access TV channel, or the City’s website.

Participate in Shoreline's Long-Range Park Plan

Here's some info from Friends of Sunset Park and Boeing Creek Open Space:

Get involved in the City of Shoreline's Parks, Recreation and Open
Space (PROS) 2011 Long-Range Planning  Process.

The PROS Plan is a long-range planning document required by the State
of WA to be updated every six years. It articulates our community's
long-term vision for our parks, recreation and open spaces and
qualifies the City to apply for state and federal grants.

Based on community input during a series of meetings this fall, in
Jan. 2011, the PRCS Board will make recommendations for long-term PROS
Plan priorities. In April/May 2011, the City Council will review the
draft PROS Plan and then in June 2011, City Council will adopt the
final plan.

To learn more about the PROS Plan, provide input on what our community
parks and recreation priorities should be, and ensure that our
community vision for Sunset/ Boeing Creek Open Space is included in
the City's long-range plan:

Attend one of two PROS community visioning meetings:
Tuesday, Oct. 5 and Thursday, Oct. 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Shoreline City Hall.

Send your comments on what you see are the 20-year needs for the City
of Shoreline Parks and Open Spaces, Recreation and Cultural Programs

Free Job Training Classes at Shoreline Goodwill

Registration for Shoreline Goodwill's FREE classes begins Oct. 4th

Students can learn valuable skills in retail, computers and English

 

Shoreline Goodwill's Job Training and Education Center, located at 14500 15^th Avenue NE, will register people on Oct. 4-15 for free classes in the eight-week session that runs from Oct. 18 through Dec. 9, 2010.

 

The center will continue to offer a variety of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes this session. These include basic and intermediate courses designed to accommodate a wide range of English skills. There will also be an ESOL Computers course to help people with limited English skills begin to acquire computer skills immediately.

 

Classes fill up fast, and sign up is on a first-come, first-served basis, so don't delay!

 

The center will also offer the following classes:

 

• Retail and Customer Service Training Program: This 10-week class teaches students skills necessary to get jobs in the retail and customer service sectors. It consists of eight weeks of class time with two weeks of on-the-job training at a Goodwill store.

 

• Basic Computer Classes: Introductory courses for people with little or no computer experience.

o   Computer Basics

o   Word Processing

o   Spreadsheets

 

• Career Building Assistance: Instructors can help people with job searches, resume and cover letter writing, interview practice and more.
