A bit of history: Ronald Bog Park

Ronald Bog Park

The Shoreline Historical Museum offers a map of North King County that highlights local historic sites. There is an entry for Ronald Bog Park and here's what it says:

Headwaters to the northern part of the Thornton Creek watershed, the ancient peat bog covered several acres of land. Native Americans living in the area picked cranberries there, as did settlers into the 1940s. A small pond formed at certain times of the year, and people reported having skated on it. At one time, a wooden bridge on 175th crossed the north side. The bog was mined for its peat throughout the late 1940s and 1950s. In 1974 the land was purchased by King County and turned into a park, now a City of Shoreline park.

So Ronald Bog was apparently once a cranberry bog! How 'bout that?

  1. Just surfing around and saw your stoy about ronald bog.I grew up in shorelines ridgecrest area in the 50s and sixties and spent many a summers day with my friends around ronald bog.In the days before I 5 there were several other ponds to the south of what is now the park.we went to them because the main bog still had a barge with a big shovel working on it and a brick home where the owner lived.WE used to build rafts, catch turtles, frogs, and even swim in the ponds. To the south of the pond there was nothing but woods, dunes, and scotch broom.the old dump was also to the north and it was the old school dump with old cars from the 30s, and lots of what now would be antiques.Lots for young kids (pre teen) to explore. There wasnt any ecology then and when the freeway was built they buried the dump, the ponds, and streams much to our dismay.Back then we spent most days exploreing the whole shoreline area and I mean the whole area.wed walk from ridgecrest to to north city to lake forest park then along the tracks to kenmore wed hike alog 5th ne to northgate and goof off in what i assume now was thorton creek west of 5th along jacksons golf course.well too much ramble ing if you want too here more contact me at haywire john123@gmail.com thanks john

I mean "A bit of history: Ronald Bog Park" is kinda boring.

You might peek at Yahoo's home page and note how they write post headlines to grab people to open the links. You might try adding a video or a related picture or two to get readers interested about everything've got to say.
Just my opinion, it might bring your website
    a little bit more interesting.
